Free Personal License

A large portion of images on Reading and Thinking are available under a free personal license. This allows you to use the photos for non-commercial purposes without attribution. For example, you could share one of our travel images on your personal social media or use it as a desktop wallpaper.

However, any public display or commercial use does require attribution and obtaining commercial licensing.

Free Public License

Some of our images are licensed for public use, meaning you can share and display the images freely for non-commercial purposes as long as you provide proper attribution. Proper attribution means visibly displaying the name "Reading and Thinking.com" or "readingandthinking.com" adjacent to the image.

Any commercial use still requires purchasing a commercial license.

Commercial Licenses

For any commercial application, including things like advertising, print materials, merchandise, film, electronic publications, etc., you must obtain a commercial license. This allows broader usage in commercial mediums in exchange for a licensing fee.

We offer simple and affordable commercial licenses tailor-made for different applications. For example, online or print ads have different license terms than merchandise or film usage.

Attribution Requirements

For any image used under a Free Public License or Free Commercial License, attribution must be provided. This means clearly displaying the name "Reading and Thinking.com" or "readingandthinking.com" adjacent to the image.

This attribution should be:

  • Placed immediately next to or below the image
  • Using a font size proportionate to the image size

Proper attribution recognizes the creator and helps direct traffic back to our site. Failure to provide attribution can result in legal action.

Modifications
