I do love reading like self-help and more educational and also fantasy and fiction books to get back into reading.
so when somebody asked me what book should I read, what books to make me love reading again and I know for a fact that there's someone that maybe has never loved reading before or maybe they used to love it and now they don't enjoy it as much whatever it is I take that question very seriously
when I was thinking of these books I was thinking what are books that are fast-paced so you know you're gonna go through the story quickly you're gonna understand it you're gonna connect with the characters right away.
so these are the 16 best books to make you fall in love with reading that I would recommend to you if you're trying to get back into reading if you just want something that you know is going to be good if you want something that will kind of get you hooked and keep you interested so let's get into it.
1. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
this one's "a good girl's guide to murder" as soon as you start the book you're so intrigued and you want to know what happens and who did it the whole thing is so easy to read it's so easy to go along with the story it's literally like watching a murder documentary on Netflix you just know exactly what's happening.
so basically this book is about a girl and she is a singer in high school and she has this project that she wants to do about a real murder that happened in her town I think five years ago so she's doing this like high school project but she takes it to another level she literally becomes like a full-on detective the murder was of a girl in high school she was a singer in high school and she went missing.
and then a couple of days later it was figured out or found out that she was actually murdered by her own boyfriend and what happened was that her boyfriend committed suicide so they automatically said that he was the one that killed her and then he killed himself but she has this very very strong feeling and intuition and she actually has proof that the boyfriend wasn't the one that killed her.
when I was reading this book it didn't even feel like I was reading because it just feels like you're watching a movie in my head so I gave this book four stars out of five.
2. Verity
Verity by Colleen Hoover
okay, the next book is one of my absolute favorite books of all time I actually recently just recommended this book to a guy and I was like wait do I recommend that to a guy I like started thinking about it in my head and I'm like I actually do if you were to ask me like what book left me with my jaw on the floor this is that book this is this one.
because I still have so many questions I don't know I still want to sit down with colleen hoover and be like what happened what did I just read verity is actually an author she's a girl she's an author and she basically has a really really bad accident she has a car accident that leaves her no longer in control of her body pretty much like she's alive but she's not really there and at this point, she's a super famous author she has a lot of money she has a husband she has kids but she has a really successful book series and her husband knows that she would have wanted to finish that.
that is where the husband Verdi meets Lowen. Lowen has a very very similar writing style to verify however she's a very low-key very unknown type of author which is why she takes the deal because she's very she needs money the big weird part of her taking this job is that she kind of has to move into the house of verity so Verdi is in her big mansion it's a very like isolated mansion which already makes it so creepy in order for Lauren to kind of get the grasp of the book and see what Verdi was working with she goes to her house she goes through her like office through her things and that is where she finds this manuscript.
she finds a manuscript that verity wrote before like literally right before her accident she wrote this manuscript where she confesses a lot of secrets a lot of things that her husband has absolutely like no idea about and if he did know about them that would change the entire story the entire relationship that they have absolutely everything will change their lives there are secrets there's betrayal there's death, it's crazy, it's literally so crazy.
this book is one of my favorites and not just because of the whole storyline of it but the feeling that this book leaves you with and like the feeling that you have when you're reading this book I literally got chills at one point because this is scary like I was reading it at night and I was like I'm scared like what is this but the ending is surreal if you're trying to get into reading and you don't really know if romance is for you or if like heartbreaking romances for you like you don't really want to read a sad book you kind of just want to read a book that you know is going to be good right here.
3. Ugly Love: A Novel
Ugly Love: A Novel by Colleen Hoover
so our next book is "ugly love" by colleen hoover. I read this I think last march and this was the first book I ever read in a day because you're literally hooked to the story from the very beginning so this book is about miles and tate. this is a brother's best friend book miles is actually a pilot and so is Tate's brother.
the story starts out with tate moving in with her brother and miles is her brother's next-door neighbor who pretty much lives across the hall from them the only thing at the beginning that Milos and tate have in common is that they're both very much attracted to each other like crazy miles makes it very very clear to state that he's not looking for a relationship he's like I don't want a relationship I don't like when people ask him about my past they both get to a point where they just can't deny the attraction that they have to each other.
so they come up with this no-strings attachment the interesting thing about the story which is why it hooks you from the very beginning is that the chapters in this book are from past to present past or present obviously in the present you can see that miles and they are building this like connection and they have this chemistry and whatever but miles is so detached and he's so secretive.
but all of the past chapters basically help you figure out why he is the way he is when you get to the moment and you figure out what actually happened to him it's like that moment where everything just sets in and you're just like "what the did" I just read that is the moment I had with this book.
but this book will grab you by the throat and it literally will not let you go until you finish the book.
4. Love and Other Words
Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren
okay, the next book I'm going to talk about is one of my favorite books of all time Christina Lauren's love in other words this story goes from childhood best friends to kind of dating to completely stopping talking for a decade to lovers I feel like I've talked about this book so many times because it's literally one of my favorite books.
and it's that amazing but I just want to share with you guys this little part and it's at the very beginning and it just kind of shows you like what kind of book it's going to be where they actually run into each other after 11 years it's literally two minutes or like a couple of minutes that they interact and they're just like.
I haven't seen you in a long time like how are you like whatever and their interaction is so quick and they meet again for breakfast like a couple of days after and the guy tells her like I actually broke up with my girlfriend the night I saw you and she's like what like you broke up with your girlfriend like why would you do that let me read this to you he's like you're the love of my life.
I assumed I would get over you eventually but seeing you yesterday I couldn't go home to someone else and pretend to love her with everything I have if you want to have the most unrealistic highest expectations for what love should look like read this book.
5. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: A Novel
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid
The next book is "the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo" guys I cannot describe how good this book is this is probably one of the top three books that I've maybe ever read in my life definitely in the last year I've gotten back into reading this has been one of my top three it is just so good.
actually, I read this book last march this was the first book I ever read that actually made me cry I was like what is happening I can't stop the tears I thought about this book days after I finished it it was that amazing she is this very very big Hollywood actress and she kind of takes you through her entire life.
This book basically tells the life story of Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn Hugo is a made-up character but in this story, she is an incredibly famous actress back in the 50s 1950s I think from the 50s to the 80s it got me really hooked because it talks about how she basically went from being a nobody to this incredibly famous woman who is so smart and determined and knows how to get exactly what she wants.
but one of the reasons why she becomes so famous is because she marries seven different men and the book is broken up into the seven husbands so there are seven parts and each part goes into what her life was like during that point in time when she was married to that person some of her marriages are really short some of them are quite long.
but I will say she doesn't just marry for love there is a lot of strategy behind some of her relationships and it's just so interesting but it's so much more than just Evelyn you get to see into the lives of some of the people that she loves the most romantic and platonic relationships as well.
and it's just such a beautiful story and truly broke my heart in so many different ways I definitely just think this is one of my number one reads you have to check it out.
6. All Your Perfects: A Novel
All Your Perfects: A Novel by Colleen Hoover
I was also crying a little bit when I finished it because it was so like every emotion possible was happening but I literally ran to my laptop and wrote down my like review and my whole situation today's Tuesday I started it Sunday and finished it Monday one of the most beautiful reading experiences I've ever had.
I feel like this book is also such a classic however do search up trigger warnings for this book is unlike anything I've ever read about because every other love story I read in every other romance book is kind of like you go through the love story and you go through them meeting each other and then you go through like the trials and tribulations of the relationship and then the ending is when they get married or when they're finally together and everything's happy and happily ever after the end this book.
however, is so heartbreaking that it basically takes you through the past and the present the past being how they meet how amazing their relationship is at the beginning how so in love they are how connected they are how the chemistry is there how they realize that they're each other's soul mates that's the past and the present is them seven years later they're married to one another the love is still there the love is very strong they're literally still in love with each other but the trials and tribulations of marriage is what's getting in their way.
and I feel like this is such a good book for newlyweds because I mean for me it's like I don't even have a boyfriend but like I feel like this is something so important to read because you kind of get so caught up with like oh when they're married it's like when you know when you finally have your your your person your partner you know everything's fine.
but this book shows you that no matter how much love there is but sometimes you just can't predict what life is going to come at you the ending is so so worth it.
I literally cried only at one point and it was like two tears um I think and I'm so glad this was the first book I read in 2022 literally has five stars this is a work of art.
7. It Ends with Us: A Novel
It Ends with Us: A Novel by Colleen Hoover
another book that broke my heart is "it ends with us" by colleen hoover. I also went into this thinking it would just be like a fun romance and boy was I wrong this is such a deep and complex story about this girl called lily it mostly talks about her as a young adult but you also see glimpses into her teenage life growing up in a home with domestic violence.
so there is a trigger warning for that and how she sees what her mum goes through and how she kind of vows to never let that happen to her but you get to see her kind of get sucked into a relationship that maybe isn't so healthy.
and I think one of the reasons why this book really broke my heart is because you get to see a glimpse of what it's like to be in the shoes of someone who is in a toxic relationship but who doesn't quite realize that it's toxic or who does realize but doesn't know what to do and I feel like it's so easy to look at someone's life and be like why are you dating that person why are you with that person if they don't treat you right.
but when you really get to see it from their perspective and stand in their shoes for a second even if it is a fictional story I feel like I can just understand why they stay so much more now based on this story it is just absolutely insane and on top of that, there is a boy in this story called the atlas and over the years no matter how many books I've read.
I don't think I've ever been more in love with a book character ever I read this book maybe about a year ago and I still think of atlas all the time I would read this book just to read about the atlas side of this story.
There is a quote now but it's the part that atlas says and he's like
"if you ever find yourself in the position to fall in love again fall in love with me"
I think this is the first book article in a while that doesn't end with me in the dark.
8. Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel
Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid
In the next book "daisy jones in the six" the writing style this book is something that will definitely grab your attention right away this is basically like an interview-style book so the whole book is people are the main characters of the book basically sharing their experience of the story and how they lived it and how they remember it.
you basically get everybody's point of view and that's what I think made it really interesting because you don't just get one single character and how they viewed it you get everybody like all the characters I remember after I finished this book I was literally just in bed and I was like I cannot think of anything else.
but this book infiltrates your mind and it's all you can think of for like a couple days after literally, I did not stop thinking about this book for a while um so amazing and of course, it's Taylor Jenkins read it so you know it's good.
9. One True Loves: A Novel
One True Loves: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid
the next book I'm talking about is "one true Loves" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I remember after I read this book, first of all, I cried so hard, and after I read this book I was just like I don't know what to read I did I don't I feel like I had to go and watch an episode of friends because I was so sad.
honestly, this is a really really beautiful book and I could not make this article without mentioning it.
I'm gonna read a little quote that I highlighted because I think about this quote daily literally every time I glance at my bookshelf and I see this book I think about this quote it says
"true love doesn't always last"
"Right. And that doesn't mean it's not true love,"
"I am who I am because I loved you once," he says
"I am who I am because I loved you once too," I say
And then we say goodbye.
10. The Love Hypothesis
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
The next book is "the love hypothesis". I just read this in December actually and I loved it also I finished it I think in a day or two and it's very addicting you read it very quickly it's very it grabs your attention it has fake dating is the number one trope it has grumpy sunshine it has kind of workplace but not really he's a professor and she's a grad student the characters are so likable.
and they have this cute ass connection that you're just like it's gonna work out and it leaves you with like light-hearted warm fuzzy feeling but I absolutely love this book so it also deserves a little mention.
11. Where the Crawdads Sing
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
Next is "where the crawdads sing". I was really shocked by how much I enjoyed this book this has been a really popular read over the past year or so in the book community and I feel like one of the reasons why it is so popular is it's just so different from so many books out there.
this book is about a girl called kaya who basically ends up raising herself in a swamp so she lives a very isolated and lonely lifestyle but pretty much just lives from the earth and is just so knowledgeable and wise about so many things even though the rest of the community around her sees her as such an outcast because she lives like by herself on this side of this swamp that no one else lives in I feel like kaya just deals with so much she just gets rejected over and over again yet still has this really deep desire to be known and loved by someone else.
it is just such a unique and beautiful story and I feel like I just got lost in the language of this because the imagery of nature and the place where she lives is just so gorgeous in my opinion it's just written very poetically and I loved it.
12. The Woman in the Window: A Novel
The Woman in the Window: A Novel by A. J Finn
Next is one of my most recent reads and this is "the woman in the window". it is so good this is more of a thriller mystery suspense type of novel and it just had me hooked the whole way through there was not a single part of this book where I felt bored with it I was always just itching to know more about this story.
this story is about a woman called Anna who lives by herself in her townhouse in new york she has agoraphobia I'm not sure if I'm saying that right which basically just means fear of open spaces so she can't leave her house and if she does her body kind of goes into shut down and she'll faint or just like freak out have panic attacks stuff like that so she's kind of trapped in her house and she passes the time by watching lots of old movies and she does french classes and she also counsels people online because she is a psychologist but she can't practice anymore.
because she can't leave her house so now she just kind of chats to people online who may be facing the same kind of illness as she is so she kind of counsels other people even though she can't really help herself which is interesting she also really likes to watch her neighbors so she kind of keeps track on her neighbors and kind of like their secrets and one day a new family move into her street and she sees something going on in their house that she probably shouldn't have seen and then this whole story.
and this whole mystery unfolds from this one little situation and it's just absolutely crazy she tries to go to the police and explain the situation because she knows that they need to do something about it but no one believes her because she's the only witness but two she's a very unreliable witness in their eyes because she's mentally ill and she's acting kind of crazy she also drinks so much so they're like you're probably just drunk you probably just made it up a side effect of her medication that she's taking can also cause hallucinations.
so there's just all these factors that go into it that basically show that she's an unreliable witness and that she shouldn't be trusted but she is so certain that she has seen this thing and she really goes into this like detective mode trying to figure it all out and there are so many twists and turns in this book and this big like altercation happens at the end where everything kind of falls into place and you just understand everything and it is not probably what you expected and it's just absolutely crazy.
when I was reading the last few chapters of this book I was so invested in trying to find out what happened because it was just so intense a lot of people have also been telling me that that book is about to come out as a movie or maybe it just has come out as a movie either way if you don't want to read it I would still recommend watching the movie because it's just so good I love the story of that one.
13. The Silent Patient
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
the next one is "the silent patient" and this is another psychological thriller this story is about a woman who has allegedly killed her husband and ever since her husband died she has not spoken a single word she hasn't spoken to any family and friends she didn't speak in her trial in court nothing and now she resides in like a mental hospital.
and a new psychotherapist comes to that hospital and requests to have her as one of his clients his manager agrees but basically says you're not going to be able to make her talk no one has been able to make her talk and he is just so determined that he will be able to and this man goes above and beyond to find out anything he possibly can about this woman and try and get her to talk.
I think I'll just leave it there because I don't want to ruin the ending of the story but let me just tell you it has some major twists and turns and it is very likely that it will shock you it was such a good read.
14. The Guest List: A Novel
The Guest List: A Novel by Lucy Foley
Another kind of mystery thriller type of book is called "the guest list" basically there is a couple who are getting married and they're getting married at this wedding venue that used to be a remote island that was just full of like a really old like mansion pretty much and a couple has actually bought this island and turned it into a wedding venue.
so now it's like a beautiful place to get married the whole book is made up of just like a 48-hour time period so from the night before the wedding to the night of the wedding it is absolutely insane maybe it's like a 24-hour period either way it's.
it's really short but there is so much that goes down each chapter is written by a different person who is somewhat involved in the wedding so you're either hearing from the wedding planner the bride the groom or one of the bridal party and every single person that you hear from has a secret and all of their secrets over this very short amount of time slowly get revealed.
basically against their will and there are some major plot twists and secrets that get revealed and then on the night of the wedding something big happens and you don't know what it is and you don't know who it happened to but you know that something bad happened.
and the story flashes back and forth to this situation and it slowly gets revealed as to what happened and who it happened to and why it happened it is so crazy honestly props to this author who was able to get all of these characters and all of their secrets to intertwine so perfectly because it just worked so well.
15. The Wife Between Us: A Novel
The Wife Between Us: A Novel by Greer Hendricks
The next book that I have to tell you guys about is called "the wife between us" and I read this one in maybe one or two days because I could not put it down this is another thriller kind of mystery kind of book it has a bit of romance in it too but I would say it's more focused on like this mystery
I honestly don't even know how to explain this story without giving something away but basically, there is a man and he has an ex-wife and a new fiancee I don't want to give anything away but I will say the book kind of makes it seems like the ex-wife doesn't like this new woman because she wants her ex-husband back but that's not quite the case.
and I'll just leave it there because I don't want to ruin anything but this has another big plot twist in it and it honestly had me confused for a little while because I was like wait what just happened but once you get it it's like whoa so again you need to check that one out it is such a good read.
16. We Were Liars
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
and I also want to give a little honorable mention to "we were liars" by E Lockhart. I haven't got this one to show you because I lent it out to a friend but I will say that that is probably the book that got me back into reading I will say I feel like people either love it or hate it I've seen both perspectives.
I feel like it just gave me major summer nostalgia kind of vibes but it also has a major plot twist at the end that you're just like wait what so if you haven't read that it's a really short and easy read and I would definitely recommend it.
but in saying that again some people love it some people hate it so I'm sorry if you don't enjoy it but I feel like that's with all books you're not going to love every book that I recommend but I still want to share the ones that I love with you guys.
